LSU picked up a commitment Tuesday from four-star offensive tackle Jevonte Domond from Glendale (Ariz.) Community College, as first reported by Scout's Jason Jewell.
LSU had made a big push to add a JUCO OT in this class, and Jeff Grimes extended an offer to Domond a little more than a week ago. With La'el Collins graduating and Jerald Hawkins becoming eligible for the NFL Draft, LSU wants to ensure it has enough depth on the outside next season.
That was the big selling pitch for Domond as he's looking forward to the opportunity of playing right away.
"I will get a chance to play big time football," Domond told Scout. "I like the o-line coach, Coach Grimes. I also like that they have a law school. I am interested in going to law school after I graduate. Plus it helps that they just had [nine] guys drafted last weekend."
Domond's a big-bodied lineman (6-foot-7, 305 pound) that started at right tackle for Glendale CC in 2013. He was named first-team All-Conference, and will graduate this summer.
He will have three seasons left of eligibility.
"I was talking to the coaches at LSU and they looked over my transcripts and found out that I am very close to getting my AA degree this summer and they said they have a scholarship for me to come right now and I have decided to take it," Domond said.
Domond is the third offensive lineman committed to LSU for the class of 2015 and the first tackle. He joins Maea Teuhema, the nation's No. 1 offensive guard, and Franklinton's Adrian Magee as members of Coach Grimes' future offensive line.
Here's a look at Domond in action.
