QB Hayden Rettig will transfer from LSU, and has already been granted his release, the school confirmed Saturday.
Rettig, a former four-star QB, did not play a down during his one year at LSU. He redshirted as a true freshman.
He signed with LSU in the Class of 2014 alongside Anthony Jennings. But Rettig fell behind his freshman counterpart on the depth chart as his lack of mobility didn't gel with Cam Cameron's offense.
Rettig entered this spring with hopes of competing for a starting spot, but Brandon Harris passed him as well, and Rettig quickly dropped to third in the pecking order.
In the Spring Game this past April, Rettig completed one of his only two pass attempts for 47 yards. His only rushing attempt resulted in a fumble that he managed to recover.
Rettig is the second quarterback to transfer from LSU this offseason. Stephen Rivers left the program before spring practices began, but he hasn't officially announced a new destination yet.
Jennings and Harris are now the only two quarterbacks on scholarship at LSU. Rob Bolden moved to wide receiver this spring, and LSU has walk-ons Brad Kragthorpe, Brandon Bergeron and Jake Clise to fill out the roster.
