Day 2 of the MLB Draft was a quiet one for LSU, but that's how the Tigers would prefer it.
Only one player from the current roster and a signee from the 2014 class were taken Friday. The Cleveland Indians selected Bobby Bradley (Gulfport, Miss. | Harrison Central) with the 97th overall pick (third round), and Tyler Moore went in the sixth round (175th overall) to the New York Mets.
Both players will sign for bonuses larger than the assigned slot value, with Moore's bonus offer totaling $280,000, according to a source on the LSU side.
The slot value for Bradley's selection was $539,600, and he signed for a figure comparable to a second-round pick.
Today brought the total of LSU players and signees drafted to three after ace Aaron Nola was selected with the seventh overall pick on Thursday.
But the best news for the Tigers from Friday was that more signees weren't taken in the Top 10 rounds. Mac Marshall was widely considered a risk to be taken within the first 75 picks, but he did not find a professional club to match his number, and he will arrive in Baton Rouge this weekend to begin summer classes Monday.
RHP Jake Godfrey and C Mike Papierski were two projected to possibly be drafted Friday, but their names never came off the board. At this point, LSU's optimistic to land 11 of its 12 signees.
From the current team, there was a chance reliever Joe Broussard would go in the first 10 rounds. He was not taken Friday, but there is still a chance he hears his name called Saturday. But LSU believes it has a better chance at keeping him now that he didn't go in Day 2, with one source calling it "70-30."
There are still 20 rounds left in the MLB Draft, with coverage beginning Saturday at noon. Track it all and get even more premium information on the draft by heading to the TSD Message Board at the link below.
