He was the MVP at the Houston Nike Football Training Camp, invited to The Opening and pulled double-digit offers this past off season. Simply put, the stock for Alvin (Tex.) Manvel safety Deontay Anderson could not be higher.
Most recently, he and his teammates are coming off an opening season 35-10 win over Westfield and in the victory, Anderson had some thoughts about his game play.
“I felt like I made a few mistakes and I could have done better. I dropped a pick and a few other things, but I can get better and focused,” Anderson said. “Other than that, it was pretty good.”
Pretty good by the standards of the 6-foot-1, 190-pound Anderson is about six tackles and a couple of pass break ups (one of which was the dropped interception). Enough plays have been made over time that Anderson is on the top of the boards of lots of programs across the county.
Most recently he took in action at the LSU/Wisconsin and is set to see Baylor/SMU today. In fact, most of the programs mentioned are on the list of schools that have been in “hot” pursuit of him as of late.
“TCU is coming at me hard. So is LSU, Texas A&M, UCLA and Texas,” Anderson said. “The coaches say I could be the best at the safety position with my abilities. I know I can so I will keep working towards that.”
