LSU-Eunice catcher commits to LSU Baseball

LSU Baseball added a new commitment over the weekend from LSU-Eunice catcher Jordan Romero.

LSU-Eunice catcher Jordan Romero committed to the LSU baseball staff over the weekend.

The rising sophomore started the majority of LSU-E's game in the 2014 season. The LSU staff has tracked him closely, and sources told TSD last week that he was on the verge of getting an offer. That came over the weekend, and Romero wasted no time in making his commitment.

Romero batted .345 last season with three homers and 32 RBI. The former Catholic High standout will join the LSU team for the 2016 season. He'll have two seasons of eligibility.

The Tigers do have a need at catcher moving forward. LSU previously had high school prospect Dominic DiCaprio committed in the 2015 class, but dropped him after a poor summer. The Tigers will lose seniors Chris Chinea and Kade Scivicque after the 2015 season. That'll leave them with a pair of catchers that are currently freshmen — Mike Papierski and Bryce Jordan.

The LSU staff expects Romero to enter and immediately compete for the starting nod at that position.
