It's been quite a week for Herb McGee.
The 2016 dual-sport athlete from Riverside Academy picked up an offer from LSU football last week, at wide receiver, before visiting campus for Saturday night's New Mexico State game. He then returned to Baton Rouge on Sunday to participate in the Combine in the Capital alongside some of the state's top basketball talent.
McGee, 6-2, 176, took TSD through the entire process of his offer, including how he reached out to wide receivers coach Adam Henry (see video below), the resulting message from Henry and just what the offer/visit meant to him.
“He told me that they really want me and that I have an offer by them," McGee recalled. "This weekend I went by (LSU), went and met with all the coaches and they showed a lot of love. I felt at home.”
On the basketball front, where he's been a bigger name for a long time considering the success his prep team enjoys, McGee has offers from Tulane, ULL, Southeastern, UCF, Oral Roberts and Louisiana Tech.
Choosing between the sports is proving to be a difficult task for McGee, who at the moment would prefer to keep playing both on the next level. In fact he said both LSU and Tulane have informed him that he can play basketball and football should he choose the Tigers or Green Wave, respectively.
“It’s gonna play a big part (in my decision)," McGee admitted. "Eventually down the road I will decide ‘Will I play both?’ As of right now I think I will try to play both. Whichever college I choose, it will help me to know whether or not I want to go there or not if they let me do both.”
As for the sport he excels at more of the two?
“That’s a tough one," he said with a smile. "I’ll let the media and everybody else decide.”
