LSU has not confirmed the injury. Les Miles said during his Monday press conference that Thomas was being evaluated.
Should the reports be true, it's a tough blow for one of the Tigers' more versatile defenders. Thomas has excelled in the nickel role, both rushing the passer and dropping back in coverage. He ranks fifth on the team with 24 tackles this season, including 2.5 for loss. He also has an interception, two quarterback hurries and a fumble recovery.
Thomas suffered the injury against New Mexico State this past weekend. His right leg slipped out from under him while chasing down the quarterback.
He tweeted this Monday morning:

Miles said that a pair of freshmen could see added playing time in Thomas' absence.
"I think there are a number of candidates there," he said. "I don't know that I'm ready to be forth coming, but I think there is always an opportunity to get Jamal Adams on the field for more snaps. I think Ed Paris is another guy that you can get on the field for more snaps. And how that will all factor in, I'm not certain."
