Derrius Guice reopens recruitment

Derrius Guice has dropped has decided to reopen his recruitment and plans to take all five of his official visits

UPDATE (WED. A.M.): Guice asked to remain on the LSU commit list despite announcing that he's reopening his recruitment. He said he has not "decommitted." He has spoken with the LSU coaches, and he has their blessing to take visits elsewhere. He will be listed as a "soft commit" moving forward.

Derrius Guice has decided to reopen his recruitment.

The four-star running back has been committed to LSU since May 31, but he announced Tuesday night he wants to reenter the recruiting process. He made his decision public via Twitter and confirmed the news to TSD via text.

"Yeah [I've reopened my recruitment]," Guice said in a text. "That's all I have to say about that."

He posted on Twitter:

"I've decided to reopen my recruitment again!! Now who shall get my 5 official visits ?? Want to take things slow now and make sure I know that whatever decision I make is what I truly feel."

"Don't get the wrong vibe! LSU is and will always be my first love! Just need to first view all my options before the final decision."

Guice was always considered a heavy lean to LSU throughout his first time through the recruiting process. Alabama was considered another school in the mix, but LSU was the strong favorite until he committed at the Bayou Picnic.

It's not yet clear which other schools will now compete for his services.

Guice is in the midst of a stellar senior season. He's run for more than 800 yards and 10 touchdowns, averaging about 12 yards a carry for the Catholic Bears.

The Tigers' once-stellar running back class in 2015 seems much more shaky. Though David Ducre is very solid with his commitment, Nicholas Brossette has been taking a closer look at other schools. He took an official visit this past weekend to Notre Dame and plans to soon take one to Texas.

LSU must now work a bit harder to ensure Baton Rouge's top two running backs stay close to home.
