LSU has sent in video to the SEC of a block executed on Kendell Beckwith during Saturday's game against Kentucky.
Les Miles confirmed Monday he'd like the conference to take a second look to determine whether the hit could constitute targeting. No flag was thrown on the play in question, which is embedded below.
Here are the NCAA rules regarding targeting, which when called, results in the ejection of the offending player:
"No player shall target and initiate contact against an opponent with the crown (top) of his helmet. When in question, it is a foul."
"No player shall target and initiate contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent with the helmet, forearm, fist, elbow or shoulder. When in question, it is a foul."
Miles said they'd like further explanation from the conference, which is why they submitted video of the play.
"College football is developing what is right and expected," Miles said. "It takes some work and that’s certainly what the conference is doing. They recognize the issue of that block, and they’re handling it the best way they can."
Beckwith did not return to the game after that hit, but Miles said he will be fine moving forward.
"Kendell is cleared to play," He said. "We took him to the sideline and he communicated extremely effectively. We checked him out, and he’s good to play.”
