The 2014-15 edition of LSU basketball debuted in front of the home fans Friday night in a 71-47 exhibition win over Morehouse College.
Sophomore Jarell Martin led the way with a game-high 22 points while three other Tigers chipped in double figures scoring, including a double-double efforts from Jordan Mickey (11 points and 11 rebounds).
Mickey also keyed an LSU defense that made life miserable for the Maroon Tigers on the interior. The sophomore from Dallas registered five of the Bayou Bengals' 13 blocked shots.
Javarius Gay paced Morehouse with 13 points and seven rebounds.
LSU, which struggled at times keeping defenders out of the lane, got balanced scoring on the other end. Newcomer Keith Hornsby had 11 points and nine rebounds, and backcourt mate Josh Gray finished with 10 points and three assists. Freshman guard Jalyn Patterson also had nine points and three boards.
The purple and gold open up the regular season Nov. 15 with a noon tipoff game versus Gardner-Webb.
