Rebounding the focus for LSU

The Tigers have been working hard at improving on the boards. Come inside as Jordan Mickey discusses the art of rebounding and read what Johnny Jones had to say about landing top recruit Ben Simmons.

After losing the battle of the boards by 20 to Morehouse in Friday's exhibition, LSU has been hitting the glass this week.

A lot.

"I was surprised," sophomore forward Jordan Mickey said of the Tigers' effort on the boards. "We failed to box out guys and that led to long rebounds (for them). That's been a point of emphasis for this week and something we've definitely improved on this week. It's just something we have to make a conscious effort to continue to do."

In the eyes of Mickey, named preseason first-team All-SEC Thursday by the coaches, rebounding is a mentality and strictly about the effort.

"Me personally, I say it's 100 percent effort," leveled Mickey. "You just have to have a want-to to get that ball and not be out-toughed by anybody. You can't let somebody box you out. It's 100 percent effort."

The Tigers open their season at home Saturday versus Gardner-Webb. Tipoff is set for Noon.
