Sophomore forward Jarell Martin scored a career-high 26 points and added 10 rebounds to record his fourth double-double of the season in a 83-72 home win for LSU (4-2) Saturday night against McNeese State (2-2).
The Tigers, playing without Jordan Mickey (ankle), rebounded from a fifth-place finish at the Paradise Jam via a solid second-half showing. LSU pulled away from the Cowboys after the game was tied at 39 at halftime.
Three additional LSU players scored in double figures, including freshman Brian Bridgewater, who exploded off the bench for 16 points (on 7-of-8 shooting), five rebounds and three steals in 22 minutes.
Forward Desharick Guidry paced McNeese State with 17 points and 14 rebounds.
LSU will be back in action Tuesday night, taking on Massachusetts in the PMAC.Head coach Johnny Jones expects Mickey to return for that contest.
“Jordan (Mickey) is fine. If he was needed tonight, he would have been available, but he had treatment that past couple of days," Jones told reporters. "We wanted to make sure that we allowed the process to take place there. I think it will, and he will be available for us on Tuesday (against UMass). We look forward to him coming back, getting into practice and getting reps in tomorrow.”
