Four-star LB Roquan Smith sets LSU official

Four-star linebacker Roquan Smith has scheduled an official visit to LSU for the weekend of Jan. 16

LSU has locked in an official visit with four-star linebacker Roquan Smith, according to Scout's Chad Simmons.

The nation's No. 2 MLB plans to check out LSU the weekend of Jan. 16. That will be his first time in Baton Rouge.

The Tigers haven't been considered a legitimate contender for Smith throughout his recruitment. But LSU has ramped up its efforts with the Montezuma, Ga., native, sending John Chavis and Brick Haley to visit him this week. That appears to have paid off with LSU set to get one of his five official visits.

Smith traveled out west to USC this past weekend for an official. He'll visit Georgia Dec. 13, Ole Miss on Jan. 23 and UCLA on Jan. 30.

Most consider Georgia the team to beat for Smith's commitment.

LSU has a big need at linebacker without a prospect committed at that position. The Tigers are set to host OLB Adonis Thomas for a visit this weekend. LSU's one of seven finalists for five-star Malik Jefferson, whom Les Miles visited earlier this week. The Tigers are also still in the mix for Ole Miss commit Leo Lewis.
