The program cover for the 2014 Music City Bowl will simply read LSU vs. Notre Dame - two storied programs with names that ring out with familiarity and respect throughout college football.
That prestige seems to be the part of this matchup in Nashville Dec. 30 that Tiger players are focusing on, not the fact that the Irish come in on a brutal four-game losing streak and that the two teams combined have dropped nine decisions this fall.
Vadal Alexander responded when asked if current records take any luster off the bowl pairing. "Us and Notre Dame could really beat any team in the nation on any given day. Notre Dame almost beat Florida State, they were one play away really.
"So it’s not like it’s a 6-6 or 7-6 or whatever they are team [Notre Dame is 7-5]. It’s one of the top teams in the nation honestly. I’m definitely excited."
Check out what else Alexander had to say in the audio interview below. He discussed Notre Dame at length, playing in Nashville and the process of learning what bowl you land in as a team.
Publisher's Note: Toward the end of the interview, some reporter - ahem, me - asks Alexander about Notre Dame having a down season and mentions the Irish are 6-6. Obviously they are not. They went 7-5. Wasn't quite sure of how bad ND's season had gotten at the time of the interview, just after the bowl announcement was made. Apologies.
