Three members of the celebrated LSU recruiting class of 2014 - safety Jamal Adams, receiver Malachi Dupre and running back/returner Leonard Fournette - were named to the All-SEC Freshman Team, as announced by the league office Thursday.
The trio, all former five-star prospects, made waves for the Tigers this fall.
Adams started the campaign on special teams duty but quickly ascended to the role of dime back, following Dwayne Thomas' injury, and eventually became a regular in four- and five-DB sets, starting two of LSU's final three games of the regular season.
The Texas native compiled 56 tackles, twice registering eight tackles in a game. When he served as a captain for the ULM game, it marked the first time an LSU freshman had done so in 10 years under Les Miles.
Dupre had an even slower start than Adams, not even making the trip to Houston for the Tigers' season-opening win over Wisconsin. But, once he got healthy, Dupre showed he can be a difference maker, totaling 14 grabs for 318 yards and five touchdowns. Heading into the bowl game Dupre is LSU's number two receiver, opposite Travin Dural.
Fournette, the most heralded of the bunch, racked up a team-high 891 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on the ground. He was a three-time SEC Freshman of the Week and rushed for more than 100 yards in four separate ballgames.
LSU's three honorees were tied for the most in the conference along with Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee. The leagues coaches voted on the team (but were not allowed to vote for their own players).
