Donte Jackson, one of Louisiana's top remaining uncommitted recruits, will announce his final decision on Jan. 21.
The four-star corner will choose either LSU, Georgia or USC.
LSU was the last school to host Jackson for a visit as he took an unofficial to Baton Rouge on Dec. 6. He was joined on that trip by close friends Tyron Johnson and Xavier Lewis. He also attended several home games in Tiger Stadium during the season and is one of the top remaining targets on LSU's board.
He has not yet taken an official visit to LSU, though that trip is expected to happen the weekend of Jan. 23, which would come after his announcement.
“I like all the coaches,” he said of LSU. “Every coach is cool. Every coach acts as if they’re my lead recruiter every time I go up there. Every coach is real genuine. Even the offensive line coach knows the stress and need of playmakers, so they don’t shy away from getting me in their office.”
Georgia has been with LSU every step of the way during Jackson's recruitment. His relationship with defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt has been pivotal for the Bulldogs' chances. He took an unofficial visit to Athens early in the season, but has not yet set a date for an official.
“Pruitt is very important. Pruitt’s my guy,” Jackson said earlier this month. “He’s a guy I look up to. He’s a real tough coach. I like the scheme he runs. Everything fits me right. He always stresses to me a lot that I can be a day-one guy; a guy that comes in there and starts four years and a guy he doesn’t even think he’ll be able to coach for four years. He always stresses how much he needs me.”
USC has only recently joined Jackson's lead group. He took an official visit there last month and returned with the Trojans near the top of his list. Jackson compares well to USC's 2014 signee Adoree Jackson, and the Trojans would love to add another elite athlete like him to the team.
“The environment was live just like I expected it to be,” Jackson said in an interview after that USC trip. “The visit was a positive visits, so that certainly helps in USC’s favor...I loved the overall experience at USC,” said Jackson. “I like the way the team plays and all of the players are cool. I git along with the players really well."
Scout will continue to provide coverage of Jackson's impending announcement.
