LSU to open 2017 against BYU in Houston

LSU will open the 2017 season against BYU, returning to the Lone Star State for another neutral-site showdown

LSU will face BYU to open the 2017 season at NRG Stadium in Houston.

The Sept. 2 game will serve as the AdvoCare Texas Kickoff in the home of the Houston Texans, the same season-opening showcase game in which the Tigers played to start the 2014 season. This will be the first ever meeting between LSU and BYU.

“We are excited about the opportunity to return to Houston for the 2017 season opener against BYU,” said Joe Alleva, LSU Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics, in a press release. “We opened the 2014 season against Wisconsin in NRG Stadium and the turnout and response from our fans far exceeded our expectations. Houston is a great city with a huge LSU alumni base and NRG Stadium continues to be one of the great venues for football. We look forward to opening the 2017 season against BYU in Houston in what should be another great start to the football season.”

The Tigers return to the Lone Star State once again for a neutral-site game. LSU played in AT&T Stadium in Arlington to start the 2011 (Oregon) and 2013 (TCU) seasons. LSU will also open the 2018 season in Arlington against Miami.

When LSU meets BYU in 2017, it will be the second time the Tigers participate in the AdvoCare Texas Kickoff. LSU scored 15 fourth quarter points to comeback and beat Wisconsin in the 2014 edition. LSU will meet the Badgers at Lambeau Field in 2016 for the second-leg of that two-game deal.

LSU has true home-and-home series with Syracuse (2015, 2017), Texas (2019, 2020), UCLA (2021, 2024), Arizona State (2022, 2023) and Oklahoma (2027, 2028).
