Five-star CB Donte Jackson commits to LSU

LSU landed a massive commitment Wednesday from five-star cornerback Donte Jackson, the No. 1 player in Louisiana

JEFFERSONDonte Jackson made it official Wednesday and committed to LSU.

Jackson announced his decision during a ceremony at Riverdale High School, picking the Tigers over Georgia. He becomes the Tigers' 17th commit for the 2015 class and the second five-star corner.

Jackson ranks as the No. 1 player in the state of Louisiana, recently getting a bump to five-star status in the final set of rankings for 2015. He's the nation's No. 5 CB, giving LSU two of the Top Five at that position, with No. 3 Kevin Toliver already enrolled on campus. Assuming Jackson does sign with the Tigers, that will guarantee LSU's landed Louisiana's No. 1 in each of the last three classes.

Jackson has been a top LSU target since getting offered during the spring, which saw him emerge as one of the nation's hottest recruits. It became an LSU and Georgia battle early in his recruitment and those were his two finalists. He made several trips to Baton Rouge for games during the fall and an unofficial visit shortly before the dead period.

Georgia did get one last chance to impress Jackson during his official visit to Athens this past weekend. But that wasn't enough to pull the state's best out of Louisiana.

He'll take his official visit to LSU this coming weekend with close friends and fellow commits Tyron Johnson and Xavier Lewis. His relationship with those two served as a big reason why the Tigers landed his commitment, and LSU made that New Orleans-area trio a big priority in this class.

Jackson ranks as the No. 28 overall prospect in the country and No. 3 in the South. He should see early playing time and can have a major impact in the return game as a freshman.
