LSU Baseball opens Preseason Practice

LSU opens the 2015 season in three weeks, and the Tigers returned to the field Friday for preseason practice. Hear from Paul Mainieri's press conference during Media Day

LSU Baseball began the Road to Omaha on Friday, as the Tigers officially opened preseason practice.

Only three weeks remain to Opening Day, and LSU hosted its annual Media Day on Friday to kick off the season. We have interviews with coaches and players, including a press conference with Paul Mainieri as he provided an update on his team.

He assessed the status of his pitching staff, with several highly-touted freshmen vying for spots in the weekend rotation. He also provided an outlook on how he and Alan Dunn intend to use those pitchers to determine the roles of that staff through the non-conference slate.

LSU does get a lot back in the lineup on defense. How have juniors like Alex Bregman, Andrew Stevenson and Mark Laird embraced leadership roles? Who will replace Christian Ibarra at third base, and who else has stood out through the fall and in the early days of spring practices?

Mainieri tackles all that and a lot more, including an update on whether the new baseballs are really making a difference in the power game. Click the link below and head to the Message Board where TSD's Hunter Paniagua provided a ton of notes and quotes from Mainieri's presser.
