Australian punter Josh Growden has committed to LSU after receiving a full scholarship to play for the Tigers, according to an announcement he made on Twitter.
Growden visited the States this past weekend on an official visit, and was expected to join the Tigers in some capacity. There was talk of a greyshirt with a potential numbers crunch looming. But LSU decided to offer Growden a full spot in the class, and he accepted it.
Growden's a product of Prokick Australia, the same academy that spawned current LSU punter Jamie Keehn. He should follow in Keehn's footsteps as the third consecutive Australian to punt for the Tigers, a tradition started by Brad Wing.
Growden played Aussie Rules Football but was cut from his team in September 2013 after an injury-plagued career. He hoped to make a return but impressed at a Prokick camp, and by Christmas of that year, he'd decided to try punting full-time. He's spent the rest of that span with Prokick Australia and earned himself an opportunity to punt in the SEC.
Growden makes 20 commits in the 2015 class, and the second specialist, joining long snapper Blake Ferguson. That leaves LSU with five spots to fill in the 2015 class. You can get the full rundown of the recruits in line to take those spots with the updated Big Board at the link below.
