LSU Baseball picked to win SEC West

LSU Baseball is the clear favorite to win the SEC West, as selected by the conference coaches. The Tigers also had a pair of players named to the preseason All-SEC First Team

LSU's the overwhelming favorite to win the SEC Western Division, as voted on by the coaches and announced by the conference Thursday.

The Tigers received 13 votes for first place in the West and one vote to be the overall SEC champion. Vanderbilt is the coaches' favorite to win the conference this season, receiving 11 of the 14 first place votes. Florida received two votes.

LSU opens the 2015 season Friday against Kansas at Alex Box Stadium. The Tigers finished a half-game behind Ole Miss for the Western division crown last season. LSU went on to win the SEC Baseball Tournament, but was eliminated in the NCAA Regional round by Houston.

LSU enters 2015 ranked as high as No. 2 and as low as No. 9 in the six major college baseball polls.

LSU placed a pair of players on the preseason All-SEC First Team, which was also announced Thursday. Shortstop Alex Bregman and center fielder Andrew Stevenson represent the Tigers on the First team. Vanderbilt had the most first-team selections with three, while South Carolina and Florida also had two.

Catcher Kade Scivicque and right fielder Mark Laird were selected to the preseason All-SEC second team.
