LSU targeting trio from IMG Academy

LSU's making a hard push for talented players from the IMG Academy in Florida. The Tigers are expected to receive visits this spring from Shavar Manuel, Saivion smith and Khalil Ladler

One of the first stops Ed Orgeron made last month was to the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

That's because he knows where football recruits are grown. IMG has a pair of five-stars and four more four-stars in the 2016 class, and the Tigers are major players for three of them.

Five-star defensive end Shavar Manuel, five-star athlete Saivion Smith and four-star corner Khalil Ladler are all expected to visit LSU this spring, with the latter two planning to attend LSU's national Junior Day this weekend. Manuel also plans to visit in the near future.

LSU offered Ladler before his sophomore season at Stephenson HS in Stone Mountain, Ga in 2013. The Tigers have continued to recruit him since he transferred to IMG, and they're still squarely in the mix. His reported top three include LSU, Georgia and Tennessee, and he's hinted at the possibility of committing this month.

Ladler's visited LSU before, tripping to Baton Rouge last summer. His visit this weekend would be his second and an opportunity to get better acquainted with the new defensive coaches.

Smith scored an offer from LSU on Jan. 21, around the time Orgeron visited his school. He's ranked as the nation's best corner and is the eighth overall prospect in 2016. He'll be one of the mostly highly sought after recruits in this class, and LSU hopes to leave an impression on him this weekend.

Manuel plans to be at Florida State this weekend, but LSU does expect a visit from him this spring. He's the third highest ranked recruit in this class, the No. 1 overall defensive end. LSU wants to load up on the defensive line in this class, and Orgeron has his targets set on Manuel as one of his top out-of-state targets.
