DT Rashard Lawrence attends LSU practice

LSU's first spring practice attracted a handful of notable recruits, including one of the state's best — five-star defensive tackle Rashard Lawrence

Five-star defensive tackle Rashard Lawrence is a must-get recruit for LSU in the 2016 class, and the Tigers got their chance Saturday to show him just that.

The big man from Neville came down to Baton Rouge to observe LSU's first spring practice session. It's his first time on campus this calendar year as he was unable to make it down for either of the Tigers' two junior days last month. But his visit this weekend will provide plenty of one-on-one time between Lawrence and Ed Orgeron.

The Tigers' new defensive line coach has made Lawrence one of his top targets in this class. He made a point to contact him as early as he possibly could, and that relationship has continued to grow in the months since.

LSU will have to battle for Lawrence's commitment, as he'll be a heavily-recruited prospect. Alabama and USC are two of many schools that have made Lawrence a priority. He claims to still be wide open.

Lawrence is a five-star prospect, the No. 10 overall recruit in the nation. He's the No. 3 DT nationally, and the No. 2 overall recruit in Louisiana for 2016.

Also in attendance for LSU's practice was another promising defensive tackle. 2017 Tyler Shelvin from Northside HS made the trip over to check out the Tigers. He was one of the top performers at camp last summer, and he may be close to an offer.

Also at the facility Saturday were a pair of running back signees. Nicholas Brossette and Derrius Guice each made the short trip over to campus to watch their future position group. They'll both arrive this summer to begin working with the team.
