Malik Newman sees talent at LSU

LSU remains a serious contender for five-star point guard Malik Newman. He sat down with Scout's Gene Swindoll to update things on his recruitment

Five-star point guard Malik Newman sat down with Gene Swindoll from Scout's Gene's Page to discuss the latest happenings in his recruitment.

LSU remains a legitimate contender to add another elite recruit to its 2015 basketball class. Newman touched on several topics in the interview, which you can read in full HERE.

Newman said by this weekend he hopes to solidify his plans for his upcoming official visits. The Tigers figure to land one of those visits, and they've been in hot pursuit for the last few months. Assistant coach David Patrick attended Newman's high school game earlier this week.

As for what Newman likes about the Tigers, he said it's the accumulation of talent that he appreciates most. The possibility of playing with Ben Simmons and Antonio Blakeney is another big draw.

"LSU, they have so much talent this year, and next year they have two good players coming in from the 2015 class," Newman said. "I think the only thing they are missing right now is another guard that they can stretch the floor out with 55 (Tim Quarterman) and a shooter. I think Antonio (Blakeney) will do a great job of coming in and doing that, and Ben (Simmons) also."

Kentucky, Kansas and a host of other schools still remain in contention as well. Here's what Newman said when asked what he's looking for in his college choice:

"I am looking for a program that will push me on and off the court, help me become a better man on and off the court," he said. "A team that has veteran players on it that have been through the wars already. Somewhere where I can go and be a piece and not just the biggest part of the team where every night I am getting double teamed. I don't want to go where they just focus on me. I want to go where I can fit in."
