So the biggest question that remains is what position he’ll play on the next level. LSU considers him an “athlete” on its commit list. That helps with the numbers but it also shows how versatile Chattman can be.
He’s ranked as a three-star safety on Scout, but he could just as easily wind up an outside linebacker at LSU.
Chattman said LSU’s head coach has one opinion that seems to differ from the rest.
“A month ago, Les Miles was talking about free safety,” Chattman said. “Everybody else is talking about outside linebacker.”
Chattman seemingly has the skill set for either. He’ll mostly play linebacker for McDonogh 35 next season, though the coaches there plan to use him all over the defense.
His weight will ultimately determine what position Chattman plays at LSU.
“It’ll just depend on how big I get,” he said. “I’m 195 pounds right now, but I’ve added about five pounds. I think I’ll be around 210 by football season. I really don’t know how big I’d have to be to play linebacker, but I like them both.”
