LSU, Auburn set for day game in Tiger Stadium

CBS selected LSU's game against Auburn for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff, giving LSU a day game in Tiger Stadium for the first SEC home contest of the 2015 season.

LSU didn't have a day game in Tiger Stadium during the 2014 season. That won't be the case in 2015.

CBS announced Thursday it had selected LSU's game against Auburn on Sept. 19 for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff. That will mark LSU's first SEC home game of the season.

That's a strike against LSU athletic director Joe Alleva, who in the last year has fought for LSU to have only night games in Death Valley. He accomplished that in 2014, though LSU's struggles likely played a part in CBS not selecting them for more games in their marquee time slot. Nevertheless, it was the first time in LSU history that every home game was played at night.

LSU opens the 2015 season at home against McNeese State. That, and all of LSU's other non-conference games, will likely be played at night. But the conference games are subject to CBS, as the network picks its most intriguing matchup to honor in the afternoon. CBS does broadcast two night games each season, one of those has been used on LSU vs. Alabama in each of the last few years.

LSU's SEC home schedule also includes Florida, Arkansas and Texas A&M.

CBS has not announced any other start times for LSU games in 2015. In a press release Thursday, CBS did announce it will televise Auburn's game against Louisville on Sept. 5 and Georgia vs. Vanderbilt on Sept. 12.

It does appear that LSU's season-ending game against Texas A&M will be played the Saturday after Thanksgiving on Nov. 28. That game's been a hot topic this offseason, as the Aggies want to make that a Thanksgiving Day tradition, while LSU would prefer to play it on either Friday or Saturday. On years when the game's played in College Station, it will fall on Thanksgiving, though the 2015 edition in Tiger Stadium will happen on Saturday.
