Jared Poché will start for LSU on Sunday with a chance to send the Tigers to Omaha.
LSU coach Paul Mainieri announced after Saturday’s game that Poché would take the bump in Game 2 against Louisiana-Lafayette. Mainieri hinted during the week he might turn to “Jack Wholestaff” for the second game this weekend.
Mainieri had said he wanted to see how Poché recovered from his near complete game last week before announcing him as the Game 2 starter.
He went 8 2/3 scoreless innings in the regional championship against UNC-Wilmington, limiting them to six hits with eight strikeouts on 121 pitches. Poché said Wednesday he’d felt usual soreness after that start but would be ready for whenever he pitched this weekend.
This will mark the first Super Regional start of Poché’s career.
