LSU hosting Brian Burns, elite teammates

LSU is hosing one of its top defensive line targets as he tours the South with high school teammates.

LSU hosted four-star defensive end Brian Burns on Tuesday as the elite pass rusher makes a tour with high school teammates across the South.

Burns has been one of the Tigers' top targets along the defensive line. He visited for several days during camp last month and left with LSU as one of his lead schools.

"Coach Orgeron put a big impact on me," Burns said in a recent interview. "He made me think long and hard about coming to fight for the Tigers."

Burns said at The Opening last week that Florida, Florida State and Georgia join LSU as the top contenders in his recruitment. He plans to make a decision before the start of his senior season.

"I really don't know yet," he said, "but I'm trying to make it before the season starts."

It's no surprise that Coach O has had such a huge influence on his decision. LSU's new defensive line coach has gotten the Tigers involved with several high-level recruits, and Burns is one of several he's hoping to add to the team.

LSU's been seen as somewhat of a dark horse, but the Tigers have a very real shot at landing Burns in this class.

Burns is not the first player LSU has tried to reel in from American Heritage HS, a South Florida powerhouse. LSU finished second last year for quarterback Torrance Gibson, and both Corey Raymond and Cam Cameron have solid relationships with the coaching staff there.

Burns was joined on this visit by 2016 tight end Nick Eubanks, who received an offer from LSU last fall but isn't considered a major target for the Tigers at this point. Kai-Leon Herbert, a 2017 offensive tackle, is another on the trip worth monitoring as he's a legitimate college prospect. Other names on the tour: Khalil Herbert, James Houston, Dontavius Butler and Tyson Campbell.
