Chidi Valentine-Okeke cleared to report

Chidi Valentine-Okeke has been cleared to report to LSU, fellow signee Jeremy Cutrer won't enroll at LSU.

LSU signee Chidi Valentine-Okeke has been cleared to report to LSU this fall, Les Miles said Thursday during a private meeting with reporters at SEC Media Days.

The four-star offensive lineman had his enrollment delayed while the NCAA looked closer at his transcripts. He missed summer workouts with the team, but will be able to join them once fall camp starts next month.

Another LSU signee didn't receive positive news though.

Miles also said Thursday that junior college defensive back Jeremy Cutrer won't enroll at LSU, and he has been "set free" from his National Letter of Intent. Cutrer was originally a member of LSU's 2013 class, but didn't have the grades to make it then.

He spent two seasons at Mississippi Gulf Coast CC where he played both wide receiver and defensive back. LSU signed him again as a member of the 2015 class, but academics once again held Cutrer back and he won't be able to continue his collegiate career in Baton Rouge.

Valentine-Okeke will though, and he'll add to the depth along the offensive line this season.

Originally a member of the 2016 class, the native Nigerian reclassified to 2015. That accelerated his recruitment, and LSU was one of several schools to enter the mix. The Tigers were still considered a longshot contender until Valentine-Okeke surprisingly announced his commitment about a week before National Signing Day.

Valentine-Okeke will likely redshirt in 2015, but the LSU coaches are excited about his potential.
