LSU commits debut as 4-stars in 2018 class

Zadock Dinkelmann and Justin Watkins among the nation's best rising sophomores.

Scout handed out star ratings to 49 players in the 2018 class, and both LSU commits made the cut.

Quaterback Zadock Dinkelmann out of Texas and athlete Justin Watkins from Florida each received four-star rankings from Scout, making them two of the top rising sophomores in the country. Position and overall rankings won't come until later, but you can expect both LSU commits to land high on those lists.

Dinkelmann made national headlines when he committed to LSU as an eighth grader. Offensive coordinator Cam Cameron identified him very early in the process and extended him an offer. Dinkelmann jumped on it and became LSU's first 2018 commit more than a year ago.

He has since lived up to those early expectations, solidifying himself as one of the nation's top quarterbacks in his class. Dinkelmann was on campus last week for the Tigers' Elite Camp, where he worked side-by-side with fellow LSU commit Feleipe Franks. Dinkelmann showed a lot of promise as he continues to mature physically.

Watkins joined LSU's 2018 class in the spring, jumping on an offer he received in late April. He already had some big offers from schools like Florida, Georgia, Miami and UCLA. But the Sunshine State standout loved LSU growing up and capitalized on the opportunity to become a Tiger.

It's obviously still super early in the process for both guys, but they've said they plan to stick with the commitments they made.

Some other LSU recruits in the 2018 class that received star ratings: QB Trevor Lawrence (5-star), CB Tyreke Johnson (5-star), CB Patrick Surtain, Jr., S Verone McKinley III, ATH Jalen Preston, CB Asante Samuel, Jr., and QB Joey Gatewood.

Ferriday (La.) offensive lineman Dare Rosenthal, an Alabama commit, also received a four-star rating.
