LSU still near the top for Deontay Anderson

The four-star safety released his top five Sunday night, and the Tigers made the cut.

LSU remains a top contender for one of the nation's best safeties.

Deontay Anderson released a top five Sunday night that included the Tigers with Ole Miss, Texas, Texas A&M and USC. Anderson hinted earlier this summer that LSU would make the cut, and it proved true.

“I feel at home at LSU," Anderson told Scout last month. “It's DBU. [Defensive backs] Coach [Corey] Raymond is the best at it. I know I can go straight to the league from there."

Anderson has been a top LSU target throughout the 2016 recruiting cycle. The Houston-area prospect has taken numerous unofficial visits to LSU and attended several games inside Tiger Stadium. He and his family also have a strong relationship with the LSU coaches.

His last trip to LSU came in late May for the Tigers' Bayou Picnic.

Anderson plans to take official visits to each school in his top five. He'll make a final decision late in the cycle, either at the Under-Armour All-American Game or on National Signing Day.

LSU has three safeties committed in the 2016 class — Eric Monroe, Cameron Lewis and Clifford Chattman. The Tigers still have room for Anderson if he wants aboard, and LSU will have the benefit of knowing exactly where its class stands by the time Anderson's set to announce.
