5-star defensive end Oluwole Betiku reached out to LSU over the weekend, largely because of Ed Orgeron. The former USC coach still carries a lot of credibility out West, and the opportunity to play under him piqued Betiku's interest.
LSU showed him Monday that interest is mutual when they officially extended him an offer. Now the Tigers are rising up his list.
Earlier this summer, Betiku released a top six that included Notre Dame, Florida State, Florida, Penn State, Texas A&M and UCLA. It now appears he's expanding his options.
Betiku told Scout's Anna Hickey that he plans to take an official visit to LSU during the season. He mentioned the Florida game on Oct. 17 as a possibility.
"I'm sure it will be crazy," he said.
Orgeron still hasn't coached his first game for LSU, but his impact on the recruiting trail has already proved massive. The Tigers currently have four defensive linemen committed with several more major names still on the board. LSU has a shot at landing five-star prospects like Rashard Lawrence, Rashan Gary and Shavar Manuel.
Now Betiku is another five-star to watch closely moving forward as Coach O continues to build his first class for the Tigers.
