2018 Update: Kobe Julien

Versatile forward Kobe Julien is gearing up for his sophomore season at Madison Prep after a successful summer on the Under Armour circuit.

Facing top competition is nothing new for Kobe Julien, a player with a basketball name and hoops pedigree in his family.

Julien (6-5, 185) got to experience the thrills of being on a state championship team this spring at Madison Prep (Baton Rouge) as a freshman before expanding his horizons this summer in the Under Armour Association.

The inside-out forward played alongside high school teammate Joshua LeBlanc ("Josh") and Greg Williams of Lafayette Christian on what was one of the top 15U teams in the UAA. Julien averaged 7.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per contest.

Already he's receiving recruiting interest from Tulane and USC, and Julien has been offered by Louisiana-Lafayette, where his father Wayne (who stands 6-foot-6) starred in the late seventies and early eighties.

While Leblanc is more of a threat from 12 feet and in, and more advanced defensively, Julien has a wider array of moves and shooting ability on the offensive end. He also seems to be developing at a rapid pace this summer given more minutes than he had as a freshman on his prep squad.

Expect Julien to continue that growth as a sophomore at Madison Prep. Now that Brandon Sampson has moved on to LSU, the scoring load - and plenty of playing time - will have to be distributed elsewhere on Jeff Jones' team as the Chargers enter the Class 2A ranks in Louisiana.
