TE Hanner Shipley transfers from LSU

LSU tight end Hanner Shipley has transferred to Abilene Christian before start of freshman season

LSU tight end Hanner Shipley has transferred to Abilene Christian, according to a release from his new school.

Shipley came to LSU a three-star tight end out of Marble Falls, Texas. He enrolled early, going through spring practices earlier this year. But he'll never suit up in a game for the Tigers as he leaves the program before the start of his freshman season.

No reason has been given for Shipley's decision. It's expected that he wanted to move closer to home as ACU is only a few hours from his hometown.

Shipley was not expected to have a significant impact in 2015, though he was in line to replace Dillon Gordon in the future as LSU's blocking tight end. Coming in at more than 280 pounds, Shipley will play offensive line at ACU, according to the school.

Shipley is one of several players to transfer out of the program this offseason, but he's the first from the Tigers' 2015 signing class.

LSU still has four tight ends on the roster: Gordon, Desean Smith, Colin Jeter and Jacory Washington.
