LSU DE Isaiah Washington to miss opener

Freshman Isaiah Washington has an arm injury that will keep him out for at least Week 1.

LSU freshman defensive end Isaiah Washington is expected to miss Saturday's game against McNeese State with an arm injury.

Les Miles confirmed Wednesday that Washington is not likely to play Week 1 but shouldn't be out too long.

"I don’t know that he’ll be playing this weekend," Miles said, "but he will be shortly thereafter.

Washington was seen exiting the LSU football facility earlier this week with a hard cast around his left forearm. Miles would not disclose exactly what type of injury Washington has, only that it's an "arm" injury.

Washington and fellow freshman Arden Key were a hot topic during fall camp as they played with the veterans during split-squad practices. Miles and the defensive coaches have said they expect both to play this season.

Washington was listed fourth on the depth chart released Monday for one of the DE spots behind Lewis Neal, Sione Teuhema and Deondre Clark. Miles would not say when the injury occurred, only that it happened "some time ago."

Washington has missed some practice time as a result of the injury.
