LSU leads all schools with most formers players on NFL opening-week rosters

LSU also produced the most defensive tackles and defensive backs on NFL opening-week rosters.

LSU held on to its crown as the biggest factory of NFL talent.

The Tigers had a nation's best 40 players on NFL rosters for the opening week of the season, two more than the Tigers had in the league a year ago. LSU also had more defensive tackles (7) and defensive backs (10) in the NFL than any other college program.

LSU was king among the SEC teams, with the conference occupying four of the top 10 spots. Miami came in behind LSU with 37 former pros, followed by USC (35), Alabama (34) and Georgia (34) rounding out the top five.

Of the 40 former Tigers in the NFL, 23 of them started for their respective teams in Week 1.

Since Les Miles took over the program in 2005, LSU leads the SEC with 64 NFL Draft picks. That's also good for second in the country behind USC (67) during that span. LSU has produced 13 first-round picks since Miles' first year in Baton Rouge — 10 of the last 12 years, LSU has produced at least one first-round pick.

Former LSU players have combined to win 31 Super Bowl titles, and 14 straight years has the NFL champion had a Tiger on the roster.
