LSU injury updates on DB Jalen Mills, TE Dillon Gordon and DE Tashawn Bower

Tashawn Bower expected to play this weekend; Jalen Mills close to returning; Dillon Gordon still at least a week away

LSU coach Les Miles offered up injury updates Monday on defensive end Tashawn Bower, tight end Dillon Gordon and defensive back Jalen Mills.

Bower suffered a "lower-leg injury" in the first quarter against Syracuse. He was taken for on-site X-rays but did return to the game, once in the second quarter and again in the second half.

Miles said Bower "could've finished the game," but they opted to take him out. He does expect him to be able to play Saturday against Eastern Michigan.

"We may give him a couple days off at the beginning of the week," Bower said. "But by the end of the week, he should be good enough to play."

Gordon likely won't play this weekend, though. Gordon suffered an Achilles' tendon injury against Auburn. He traveled to Syracuse but did not dress.

"Dillon Gordon is maybe a week away from giving us a full game," Miles said. "But he's really improved."

Mills could return within the next couple weeks. He underwent surgery on his lower leg before the season started. LSU estimated then that his earliest possible return would be the South Carolina game on Oct. 10.

Miles said that Mills has started running and cutting, but they "have to see where his comfort is."

"I'd like to say [he'll return in] two weeks, but I'm not ready to say that," Miles said.

His recovery has come "much quicker" than they initially expected.

"The injury itself has a long view, but he's approached his rehabilitation aggressively," Miles said. "We were shooting for him to return about this time, and frankly, we're not far off."
