LSU ranked No. 5 in Amway/USA Today Coaches' Poll, No. 7 in Associated Press Poll

LSU rises in both of the new polls released Sunday

LSU is now a Top Five team according to one of the polls released Sunday.

The Tigers came in at No. 5 in the Amway/USA Today Coaches' Poll, up four spots from the previous week. LSU rose two spots in the Associated Press Poll to No. 7.

LSU also received one first place vote in the Coaches' Poll. Individual ballots are not made public, but Les Miles does have a vote.

This is LSU's highest ranking in the Coaches' Poll since 2012 after the Tigers beat Texas A&M on Oct. 20, 2012. The Tigers entered their next game ranked No. 5 two weeks later, but lost to Alabama and have not been ranked that high since.

It's been almost two years since LSU was last ranked this high in the AP Poll. The Tigers rose to No. 6 after beating Florida on Oct. 12, 2013 but lost to Ole Miss the following week.

LSU is now the highest ranked SEC team in each poll after both Ole Miss and Georgia lost this week. There are six SEC teams ranked in each poll: No. 5/7 LSU, No. 8/10 Alabama, No. 9/11 Texas A&M, No. 11/12 Florida, No. 13/14 Ole Miss and No. 16/19 Georgia.

LSU's next opponent, South Carolina, did not receive votes in either poll. The Tigers play Florida the following week in what could be a battle between undefeated Top 10 teams.
