Louisiana's No. 1 LB Michael Divinity commits to LSU

LSU landed a late night commitment from the state's best linebacker

LSU received some massive news late Sunday night when four-star Michael Divinity announced his commitment to the Tigers.

Divinity is the No. 1 OLB in Louisiana for the 2016 class, one of the top 10 nationally at his position. Divinity also ranks within the Top 150 overall.

Divinity has long been one of the Tigers' top targets. He first landed an LSU offer in the spring of 2014 and has maintained serious interest ever since.

Divinity, a standout at John Ehret HS in Marrero, took numerous visits to Baton Rouge throughout his recruitment, most recently for the game against Auburn a few weeks ago.

Frank Wilson led the way in his recruitment with help from Kevin Steele and Ed Orgeron.

Divinity was expected to take his official visit to LSU this weekend for the Florida game. He had already taken official trips to Oregon, Texas A&M and Florida State in the early parts of this season.

LSU was always the heavy favorite though, and he made that clear Sunday when he opted to commit.

The Tigers have a major need at linebacker in 2016 after not landing one in the previous signing class. LSU has two other linebackers committed this year — Erick Fowler and Rahssan Thornton.

Divinity plans to graduate early and enroll at LSU for spring practices. That combined with LSU's lack of depth at the position makes him a candidate to play significantly as a freshman.

Divinity's pledge makes 19 commits for LSU in the 2016 class, one that ranks No. 2 in the country. Click Here for the complete commit list.
