Hahnville WR a speedster

Boutte-Hahnville (La.) receiver Darius Reynaud is one of the fastest receivers in the South for 2004.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound speedster has a personal best of 4.37 seconds in the 40-yard dash and he runs a consistent 4.4-forty.

Some schools are recruiting him for running back but Reynaud insists he would like to stay at receiver. With his speed, how could one argue?

"Speed kills and I like receiver because I can use my speed one-on-one," said Reynaud. "No corners have stopped me yet and that is why I like to play there."

Reynaud is sitting on six offers right now from LSU, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Colorado, Michigan State and Oregon State.

Is there a leader?

"LSU right now," Reynaud told Tiger Rag. "The only one I've been to is LSU and that is the only one I've seen good so far. I want to take my visits and see the others." What stands out with the Tigers?

"I like the football program," he said. "I went to a camp there and they showed me some good techniques to use. I got to know coach (Nick) Saban and he is a nice coach. I really like him."

LSU signed LaRon Landry, Reynaud's quarterback from last season, in 2003. Landry is serving as a key recruiting tool for the Tigers.

"He tells me to come to LSU and that they really like me a lot," said Reynaud, who is projected as a full academic qualifier. "I told him I just want to wait and see."

Football is going to play a big part in his decision, but Reynaud is also looking at his academic surroundings.

"I want to major in engineering so I want a school with good academics," he said. "Then I'm looking at the football stuff."
