Another good West Monroe LB

West Monroe might as well be called a linebacker factory as the Rebels turn out Division I linebackers on a yearly basis.

Coach Don Shows has one of the top linebacker prospects in the South in Luke Sanders, but another prospect at the position is Mack Dampier (6-1, 227, 4.7) and he is turning some heads.

"Right now, just Louisiana Tech has offered," Dampier told Tiger Rag. "Auburn is coming for my first game and they said if I perform like I did at their camp, then they are going to offer. I still love LSU because it is the state's powerhouse."

Dampier was an All-State performer a year ago when he registered 105 tackles and 13 sacks for the Rebels. Currently he is also considering LSU and Southern Miss, but it is shaping up as a heated battle between Auburn and LSU.

"I really like Auburn and they are showing the most interest," said Dampier, who is projected as a full academic qualifier. "(Louisiana) Tech is real close to home but I kind of want to go away. LSU and Auburn are at the top."

LSU and Auburn are very similar in what each has to offer the hard-hitting linebacker.

"I love the coaches at LSU," said Dampier. "Coach (Will) Muschamp is a great guy and they recently hired coach (Mike) Collins who is from around here. I love the atmosphere and my sister goes there so I would have some family over there."

How about what Auburn has to offer?

"I like the coaches and the atmosphere," he said. "Everywhere you go you see nothing but go Tigers' signs. It's a small town kind of like West Monroe. I love the campus and the small town atmosphere."

Dampier knows he will have a tough decision if LSU and Auburn both offer him a free ride but he knows what the deciding factor will be.

"If they both come with an offer, then it will come down to where I get the most playing time at," he said.
