Bowers swaps out Big 12 teams

Shreveport-Evangel defensive end Chris Bowers is Louisiana's top-rated defensive end prospect for 2004.

He has dropped one of the top programs in the country from his top five and added its conference rival.

"Oklahoma is out but Nebraska is in," Bowers told Tiger Rag. "I don't remember why I said Oklahoma because they haven't showed a lot of interest. Nebraska's defensive line coach writes every day and it sounds real interesting. It just sounds good."

Bowers said his top five consists of Stanford, Texas Tech, Ole Miss, LSU and the Cornhuskers in no particular order.

LSU has not enjoyed a lot of success in recent years with signing Evangel players, but Bowers said that will not have a bearing on his decision. LSU linebackers coach Kirk Doll is recruiting Bowers and he is doing everything he can to lure the sack master to Baton Rouge.

"What might have worked or not worked out for them (former Evangel players recruited by LSU) is totally different for everybody," said Bowers. "When I went down to LSU for a camp, I saw the new academic center and it was nice. And the coaches are real nice. Other than being close to home, it is just a good school."
