Mississippi QB ready for action

Mississippi is not very deep at the quarterback position for 2004, but one of the state's top signal callers is Pat Farrell.

He plays for Long Beach High School and is known as one of the top pure passers in the Magnolia State.

Farrell is 6-foot-3 and weighs 220-pounds. He made his mark as a junior with 2,405 yards and 26 touchdowns through the air, including a 501 yard performance and five scores in one game.

Schools have indicated to Farrell that they want to see him in action during his senior season, but the interest is definitely there from some top programs.

"I don't have any offers yet," Farrell told Tiger Rag. "The schools I'm really looking at are Mississippi State, Southern Miss, LSU, Ole Miss and Arkansas."

Farrell made it to one summer camp to fine tune his game but another trip got cancelled at the last minute.

"I went to the Ole Miss senior camp and I was supposed to go to Tulane's camp, but my coach backed out at the last minute because it was raining," he said. "I'm not really looking at Tulane anymore."

Southern Miss is showing the most interest but if Farrell had his choice he said his pick would be Mississippi State.

"I feel at home there and just feel real comfortable," he said of the Bulldogs. "I've also got a lot of high school buddies there. I really enjoy the campus life and like it up there."

Immediate playing time is not that important to Farrell but he does have a timetable in mind for when he will be ready to play.

"I'm looking for somewhere I can play at my first couple of years," he said. "I plan on redshirting my first year and then competing for the starting job after that."
