More bodies back at practice

LSU practiced Friday afternoon and went to work on corrections following the first scrimmage of the fall held the day before.

There were a few Tigers back at work after missing some time with injuries, and another player made yet another position change.

Adrian Mayes is back at safety after a brief stay at linebacker. He started fall practice at safety but made the move to linebacker after one day.

Wide receiver Devery Henderson also made his return following a hamstring inury. The senior from Opelousas showed signs of rust at times but looked impressive in offensive drills. Offensive lineman Stephen Peterman also returned and took place in all workouts.

Defensive tackle Chad Lavalais and wide receiver Skyler Green both had red jerseys on but still participated in practice. Green continues to recover from a shoulder injury and had an impressive showing in the passing drills.

The LSU coaching staff progresses in their teaching of the offensive playbook as evidenced by Matt Mauck's outstanding practice. The junior quarterback demonstrated his knowledge of the playbook, making the correct audibles throughout drills. Offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher was pleasantly surprised with Mauck's ability at the line of scrimmage.

On the defensive side of the ball, head coach Nick Saban worked on his secondary on swatting the ball away from receivers; something Saban was disappointed in from the Tigers' scrimmage Thursday.

At the linebacker position, true freshman Brian West continues to progress nicely in his understanding of Will Muschamp's defense and continues his quest to crack the Tigers linebacker rotation.

The Tigers return to two-a-day workouts tomorrow with a 9:30 morning practice and a 7:30 night practice.
