LSU Football Top 25 Player Profile: No. 22A LB Devin White

Christian profiles Tiger Blitz' No. 22 ranked (tied with Lawrence) player Devin White in his Top 25 Player Profile.

Position: Linebacker
Size: 6-1, 255
Year: Freshman
High School: North Webster High School
Hometown: Springhill, Louisiana

With offers from nine other SEC schools, not including LSU, Devin White's ability as a four-star athlete coming fresh out of high school was expected to be used multi-dimensionally. An elite linebacker at North Webster and a feared downhill-running, unafraid-of-contact tailback, White’s size and attributes — including a verified 4.57 40-yard dash by Scout — catered to LSU’s power-first, hard-nosed style of football. White committed to LSU over schools like Florida State, Ole Miss, Alabama, Auburn and others and enrolled early.

Outlook for 2016-17

One thing is for sure, White, the once-skilled running back in high school, will play linebacker for the Tigers — and likely a lot of it.

But, that’s what he asked for.

During a media session amid spring training, Miles said White texted him and asked to play more linebacker than running back. White said he thought he could see the field more through playing linebacker than at tailback, Miles recalled.

Behind starters Duke Riley and Kendall Beckwith, White is expected to be the next man up and LSU coach Les Miles, who was publicly pleased with White’s performance during spring training, is excited for the expected-to-be breakout season for White.

Again, Miles “enjoys” White’s raw, physical talent.

His speed too.

“One of the freshman, Devin White, is a 6'1", 250-pound, runs under 4.5 and has played running back and linebacker. I would expect that he would play in every game at linebacker,” Miles said at SEC Media Days on July 14.
