Sophomore wide receiver Tyron Johnson has announced on Twitter he has been granted his release from LSU and will transfer.
Johnson played in nine games last season, caught nine passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns — a 61-yard score against Western Kentucky on Oct. 24 and a 39-yarder against Ole Miss on Nov. 21.
The New Orleans native was once a five-star prospect out of Warren Easton High School and ultimately chose the Tigers over Texas Tech and Oklahoma.
Johnson had spent most of the Tigers’ practices with the freshmen and veteran select players, while being promoted to veterans practice once, for the first week of fall camp.
Senior wideout Travin Dural said LSU’s third and fourth receivers behind he and Malachi Dupre were Jazz Ferguson, a lengthy 6-foot-5 player, and Drake Davis, a up-and-coming, beefy, 6-foot-3, 217-pound freshman.
Johnson joins John Diarse and Trey Quinn as wide receivers to transfer from the program between the end of LSU's 2015-16 season until fall camp. Diarse has since transferred and enrolled at TCU and Quinn at SMU.
