AP Poll: LSU is No. 5

LSU ranks fifth in the Associated Press' preseason Top 25 poll release to kick off the 2016-17 season.

College football poll season has returned.

LSU opens the 2016-17 season as No. 5.

The nation’s longest-running college football poll, the Associated Press, rated the Tigers fifth in its inaugural preseason poll, 13 days prior to LSU’s season debut against Wisconsin at Lambeau Field on Sept. 3.

LSU (9-3, 5-3 Southeastern Conference) finished 16th in the national poll after its 56-27 Texas Bowl win versus Texas Tech on Dec. 29, 2015. The Tigers opened the 2015-16 season as No. 14 and have ranked first 30 times during the poll’s 70-year history.

LSU ranked as high as second, nationally, last season prior to consecutive losses to Alabama, Ole Miss and Arkansas.
