LSU releases depth chart for Week 1 against Wisconsin

LSU releases its depth chart for Saturday's season opener against Wisconsin at Lambeau Field.

It's officially LSU football game week.

"Football season is about to start," LSU coach Les Miles said as he met with the media on Monday at his weekly "Lunch with Les" press conference.

The Tigers released their depth chart for the season-opening game against Wisconsin at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at Green Bay's Lambeau Field.

In the release, the offensive line was set as well as the starter at the "F" linebacker.

From left tackle to right, K.J. Malone, Will Clapp, Ethan Pocic, Josh Boutte and Toby Weathersby will start for the crew. Sophomore Maea Teuhema remains as the No. 2 left and right tackle after nursing a sprained ankle to begin fall camp.

"He's practiced the last ten days," Miles said. "He's extremely healthy. We're ready to roll."

Michael Divinity Jr., a true freshman, will officially takeover as the starter at the "F" outside linebacker/defensive end. Junior Tashawn Bower has moved behind Arden Key at the "Buck" linebacker, the outside man on the short-side of the field, as it's normally positioned.

"He learns assignments very well," Miles said. "We expect him to play a lot of football."

On the depth chart, all of LSU's position coaches are slated to be on the sideline for the season opener, which Miles confirmed.

Here's how Miles explained the location change of position coaches and coordinators:

Miles: "Yeah, well, another thing, too. Here is the issue: Where does Dave and Cam figure to serve us best? To me, I think what Cam gave us dealing with the quarterbacks was extremely good, and I think Dave's really got to be downstairs for the defense. Peveto is going to substitute our special teams. Ed is going to substitute the defensive line. So really, the coordinators are the only ones -- the coordinators and the secondary coach would be the ones that can come upstairs and the reality is that our guys wanted to stay down and it's something that they can do, and I'm going to take it under advisement and say that they can see the field from there. And if I find that, in fact, we're not getting the view of things that need to be relayed from the press box, this will change."

Other notes:

  • Senior tight end Desean Smith was left off the official depth chart, but Miles confirms he "will play."
  • Derrius Guice and Donte Jackson will man the kickoff return crew.
  • Tre'Davious will be the primary punt returner.
  • Cameron Gamble will kickoff. Connor Culp is the No. 2 place kicker and kickoff man.
  • Greg Gilmore is listed as the No. 1 nose tackle, Travonte Valentine is second.
