After LSU's loss to Auburn on Saturday night, the heat was up on LSU coach Les Miles, but Tiger Blitz has learned that Les Miles and Cam Cameron have been fired by LSU.
A source indicated to Tiger Blitz that a move could be coming tonight and Miles and Cameron were indeed let go.
Ed Orgeron, who has served before as an interim coach, has been tapped to serve in that role for the remainder of the season.
LSU Director of Athletics Joe Alleva thanked Miles in a statement for the job he did at LSU, but a national championship and a 111-34 record in Baton Rouge wasn't enough.
“Decisions like this are never easy ones to make,” Alleva said. “Coach Miles has done a tremendous job here and he’s been a great ambassador for our University, which makes this even more difficult.
“However, it’s apparent in evaluating the program through the first month of th season that a change has to be made. Our commitment to excellence and competing at the highest level is unwavering, and our goals for the remainder of this season haven’t changed. We have an obligation to our student-athletes to put them in the best position to have success on the football field each week and we have great confidence that coach Orgeron will do just that.”
The start for LSU was the worst under Miles since 2005 and much of the heat stemmed from LSU's offensive issues, which has failed to score in the fourth quarter.
LSU will announce Orgeron at a press conference on Monday where Orgeron is expected to announce numerous staff changes.
Ross Delanger at The Advocate was first to report Miles' and Cameron's firing.
