On Wednesday, four-star Natchitoches wing Brandon Rachal made it official and committed to the in-state LSU Tigers and Johnny Jones.
The 2017 wing announced at a ceremony in his high school gym that the Tigers had landed him over Texas A&M.
Rachal had narrowed down his recruitment to three schools and took official visits to LSU and Texas A&M before deciding to commit prior to an official visit to Texas, which he cancelled.
"Its all about the best decision. I'm proud to announce I'll be attending Louisiana State University."
The 6-5, 215-pound wing said after his visit to LSU a few weeks back, playing at home with many players he already knows would be special.
“It’s a great home feeling. It just feels home like I’m in Louisiana with Louisiana guys and we’ve all got confidence. Our past experiences, we can talk about because we’re from Louisiana,” Rachal said. “I know a lot of the players that I might have played against in high school so it’s just building those relationships.”
Johnny Jones has been recruiting Rachal for some time now and Rachal feels close with LSU's head coach.
"That's my home school. They're a good program and doing some good things with recruiting momentum. I love Johnny Jones. I'm a big Johnny Jones fan. I'm close with the staff and comfortable with the staff."
A lockdown defender, Rachal's jumper has steadily improved and something he continues to work on. He'll bring that edge defensively to LSU and the ability to play multiple positions on the perimeter for LSU.
Rachal is ranked at the No. 22 overall small forward in the 2017 class and No. 2 small forward in Louisiana. He joins fellow four-star wing Galen Alexander in the Tigers' 2017 class. Alexander is the No. 1 small forward in Louisiana.
